Coamo, Puerto Rico
We would like to introduce our latest program location on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Coamo is located in the foothills of the central mountains in a valley ,famous before modern times and European exploration, for its thermal mineral springs. Legend says that these are the springs described to Ponce de Leon as the fountain of youth. Rivers and streams flow out of the mountains and provide beautiful scenery along with the rolling hills of the area. The historic downtown plaza is home to a 1755 church and the municipal offices of Coamo which was founded in 1570 and was the first city where coffee was produced.
We have partnered with the local schools to provide an in-school tutorial program for students in grades PK-6. Your role as a volunteer is to assist local teachers and help students exceed academic standards!
